Provincial Caregiver Strategy Development
With the support of the Consultation Committe, the Alberta Caregivers Association is leading the consultation initiative that will result in Canada's first provincial caregiver strategy. The core members of the committee include:
- University of Alberta (Nursing)
- University of Calgary (Social Work)
- University of Lethbridge (Nursing)
- Alberta Health Services (AHS)- Seniors Health
- Family Caregiver Centre (AHS, Calgary-based)
- Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (Professional Colleges)
- Alberta Disabilities Forum (Illness an d Disability Organizations)
- Representatives from the ACGA's Board of Directors (Caregivers)
As the final step in the consultation process, the committee will meet to review the results of the surveys and conventions, and to develop a framework for a provincial caregiver strategy based on the challenges, capacities, and strategies identified through the consultation process. The framework will then be circulated to stakeholders for feedback.

(Excerpt from "Caregiver Consultation 2010: Towards a Provincial Caregiver Strategy")
The report will be distributed to convention delegates and key stakeholders for their feedback. Consultations with stakeholder groups will be arranged to help fill in any gaps in the framework, secure support for further development of the final strategy document, and mobilize stakeholder resources and interests to promote the strategy. A new coalition, led by the ACGA and comprised of interested stakeholders, will decide on priority areas and develop plans, activities, timelines, and targets to engage public, private, and community stakeholders to implement and adopt the Alberta Caregiver Strategy.
